Saying Goodbyes to Two Members of Our Family...

December 10, 1997 ~ July 12, 2012

Precious little Dino was my daddy's dog, and constant companion... when my daddy passed away in 2007, my niece Filly inherited Dino... for the past five years Filly and her partner Ellie have been what they call Dino's "legal guardians". They have given him so much love and care and he has lived a most charmed life... Dino has been living in London with them for the past year and a half. I will miss you so much little Dino. I know all of God's precious little creatures go to Heaven, and you are reunited with your daddy now. I love you, and I love you Filly and Ellie... my heart is aching for all of you ... Juju ** Just since preparing this post, we have lost yet another family member late yesterday... he died suddenly and unexpectedly, much too young and much too soon... our family is suffering a tremendous amount of grief right now and it is too painful to talk about... I will be away from blogging for some time... my family is the most important thing in my life and my thoughts are only of them... I love you Joel and I pray you are at peace...

Old Friends...

Old books... old friends... so many stories to tell... not just the ones the author wrote... but the whispers you hear between the lines... stories from long, long ago... I listen closely to what these soft voices from the past have to say to me... here are just a few of my favorites... The Bobbsey Twins book was a gift to my mama for Christmas 1926... inscribed to her from her uncle... she would have been seven years old when she received it... a precious treasure of mine...

My mama's copy of Anne of Green Gables... I found the beautiful pressed flower she had carefully tucked within the pages so many years ago... everlasting... like my love for my mama...

1001 Gems...

Beautiful English poetry...

Equally beautiful drawings...

The Strollers...

A beloved gift to "Mary Coffey" for Christmas 1910... I purchased this at an estate sale ... I do not know who Mary Coffey was... but I have a picture in my mind of a lovely lady, lazing away a Summer's afternoon on a blanket in the shade of a tall tree... sipping lemonade and savoring her book... surely it must be she... I do hope she knows I will take care of her beautiful book always...

Some of my precious vintage and antique French books... placed alongside photos of my French ancestors... and my treasured French Bible now over 100 years old...

Beautiful books... beautiful memories... blissful enchantment with each turned page...

I display my vintage and antique books all over our home... but I have read them all as well... I know each story by heart... and the gentle whispers that come from the pages from the past really do speak to me... and I listen closely... xoxo...

Ms. Gertrude Jekyll Makes a Return Visit...

We have been at or near 100 degrees for days here now... and most of my Springtime~early Summer roses and flowers had pretty well pooped out from the heat... my Prairie flowers are loving it now...and have taken over and are blooming profusely... we have also had alot of wind which has added to our dry state and the many wildfires blazing here in Utah... this morning, I was delighted to wake up to a cooler day with a soft, gentle rain pattering down... thunderstorms are predicted for later today, which will help our firefighters with putting out the fires... and I am so grateful for that...

Usually, our roses do not make a return appearance in the gardens until later in August~September when it begins to cool down some and they begin blooming once again... but this morning, lovely Ms. Jekyll couldn't wait till then to show off her beautiful blooms... shall I pick this one and enjoy her inside?... or shall I let her be the star of my cottage garden right now?... either way, she is stunning!... xoxo...

Fourth of July...

Wishing you all a happy and safe Fourth of July...

Wildfires are ravaging our State this day... and I am praying for the safety of everyone... homeowners, animals, firefighters, the pilots of the Forest Service planes that are dropping fire retardant... they are flying overhead constantly and I hear them above our home as I type... so far, our little town is in no danger, but many close by are... please say an extra prayer for them too as you celebrate America's birthday... xoxo...

I'll Miss You Ange...

You've been there for me ever since I was a little girl... that tall, dark and handsome Sheriff of Mayberry... where life was simple and folks were friendly... where the pace of life was slow and relaxing... and good always won over bad... and right over wrong... with your soft Southern drawl you taught life's lessons in a most uncomplicated way...

June 1, 1926 ~ July 3, 2012

I grew up in a little Mayberry kind of town, but I always wanted to live in the quaint, beautiful little town of Mayberry, North Carolina where you did... and sit out on the porch while you strummed your guitar... and eat Aunt Bea's apple pie fresh out of the oven... now you are in another beautiful place... along with Aunt Bea and Barney and so many of your family and friends... I will miss you Ange... may you rest in peace... God Bless you...

It's Summer in the Country...

The temperatures are climbing and we are at or near 100 degrees each day now... it's Summer here in the country!... and that means raspberries!... my neighbor down the lane and around the bend calls me when her raspberries are at their peak and ripe and ready for eating... I smile as I anticipate their sweet taste as I don my straw hat and walk to get these delicious treasures...

Plenty for jam... I have made three batches already... one batch of red raspberries and two batches of black raspberries... I love to make plenty to share with my sister and my nieces and their families... plus plenty for black raspberry shortcake... yum!... the pleasures of Summer in the country!... xoxo...
