Decoration Day......

Growing up, Memorial Day was always known as "Decoration Day"... a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service...

Wishing you all a safe and happy Decoration Day~Memorial Day weekend... as you enjoy your barbeque's, picnics and such, please don't forget to honor those who have lost their lives serving our country, our wonderful veterans who have given us so much and the brave men and women who currently serve in our Armed Forces... I am also including all Law Enforcement and Firefighters and Paramedics... I salute you all... God Bless America... xoxo...

What a beautiful tribute, Julie Marie. We are hanging out around home this weekend..although I may drive 100 miles South to my daughters for dinner tomorrow. Hubby is on call so he is tied to home base here.

I am so proud of our service people...and our law enforcers....and first responders. Blessings to all of them. xo Diana

Happy Memorial Day to you, too. And, yes, I remember when it was called Decoration Day. :)

Yes, I remember it as Decoration Day, as well. My grandmother would cut un-opened peonies and put them in her root cellar to keep cold until Decoration Day. We would drive to her house and then on to the cemetery and decorate the graves of relatives. After this, we would go to my uncle's house for dinner. I was 8 when we moved far away, but I still remember those special days.
These days I honor those who protect and serve the United States, and those who have given their lives for us.

I hope your weekend and Memorial Day has been wonderful dear friend. We got a whopper of a wind and rain storm here yesterday, but other than that I had a great time with my mom and sister who are visiting. I read your post before about how the wind had hit your garden hard. It has been so windy here lately too and it drains me to work in it so I think it was a good break to have my family come to visit and take my mind off it : ) I know you and I have similar weather and circumstance, and somehow it keeps us gardener's hopping doesn't it? I guess that makes us all the more thankful to get the blooms we get.
sending hugs...

Hi Julie Marie, a wonderful tribute! We lived close to a cemetery and me and two of my sisters use to pick flowers from mom's garden and put on any grave that didn't have any. Hope your day was wonderful!
Hugs,
