Welcoming May... to me, the most beautiful month of the year... and my birth~month as well... such a soft and gentle month as glorious Spring truly unfolds all of her enchantment before us... you know me... I am an incurable romantic... a very sentimental lady... that's why I love the old~fashioned names given to my favorite flowers... I believe I have told you before, I plant special flowers for my loved ones who have passed on... yet are always with me... in my thoughts and close inside my heart... one of my very favorite old~fashioned flowers is Bleeding Heart... but did you know it is also called Lieutenant's Heart?... it is... that is the old folklore name for it, as many say part of the flower resembles a beautiful lady... and a Lieutenant will always carry that beautiful lady close in his heart wherever he may be...
Although my daddy retired from the US Army as a Colonel... when he met my mama he was a Lieutenant stationed at Ft. Douglas, Utah as an MP ( Military Police) before he left to serve in WWII overseas... they said their goodbyes as he headed off to War... but my mama was always close by him... always in his heart...
So you see... my flowers carry alot of precious memories in their delicate little hearts...
Delicate... yet strong... just like the beautiful lady my daddy married before he went off to War...
A Lieutenant and his lady...
Always in my heart as well...

Oh, how sweet! I've heard of bleeding heart, but never Lieutenant's Heart. How appropriate to honor your parents this way!
My mum also loved these flowers always had them in her garden and my dad was also in the war , he was a British soldier both my parents were in England at the time of the war . I miss them both very much to as my dad passed 15 years ago and my mum 4 years ago . Mum called them bleeding hearts as well I have never heard them called Lieutenants Heart ! A wonderful post and photos ! Have a good evening !
Missing them just never goes away. This was a beautiful tribute to your lovely parents. Bless your heart.
How sweet Julie-Marie. I too attach great meaning to flowers and plants. hugs, olive
I never knew there was another name for Bleeding Heart. How special is that? I love the story about your Mom and Dad.
I love the custom of planting a flower when we lose someone. We lost our little granddaughter, Anna Bella, and bought an Annabelle hydrangea for all the closest members of the family. Mine has been moved to 3 homes and survived each move.
Blessings to you- xo Diana
Oh such a touching post- isn't it strange how such things can bring back the memories, and hold in your heart?
Thanks for sharing your family

Nice tribute to your mom and dad.
I sure can relate to it. My dad married mom right before he went off to war, too. (Didn't want anybody else to snatch her up. :)

What a special tribute to a beautiful couple! I am so happy to learn this about the bleeding heart. I am in awe of the sweet little dangling beauties. I have two pink ones that are blooming beautifully now. I too like plants in remembrance. When I ran across the 'June' Hosta I snagged one up for myself, sisters, and daughters. How could I not? That was my sweet mother's name. Thanks for sharing this sweet post with Share Your Cup!
