Enchanted April...

April... to me, the most enchanted month of Spring... it is raining here today, so no outside gardening for me... but the soft, gentle rain is most welcome... "April showers bring May flowers"... I love that old~fashioned saying... just like I love all of my old~fashioned flowers in my cottage garden... I took this photo yesterday of one of my Bleeding Hearts... (Dicentra spectabilis, also know as Venus's Car, Lady in a Bath, Dutchman's Trousers or Lyre Flower)... so delicate and graceful as they create a fragile arch of little dangling hearts... it reminds me of a little charm bracelet I have that has hearts hanging from it... this plant is very large and so beautiful... just starting to show off her stunning fuchsia colored blooms... I also have several white (Alba) Bleeding Hearts but they bloom a bit later... they are equally as stunning...

So while the soft rain patters down and gives my garden a much needed drink today, I shall sort through my wish~list in my garden journal for new plants I want to add this year... sip a cup of chamomile tea... daydream a bit... and visit my favorite blogs... like yours!... does April bring a fairytale enchantment to you as well?... I am wishing that it does... Welcome April!... xoxo...

Those pretty little bleeding hearts are one of my favorite flowers. They would be more of an annual plant where I live. Enjoy the sound of the rain as it pitter pats and gives your blooms a fresh drink. Have a beautiful day Julie Marie.

The bleeding heart is enchanting just as you said. It rained here during the night which is wonderful for the lilies. I am sunning on the deck and am happy to report I have, finally started a garden journal as I sometimes forget what I have done in the garden. Have a most lovely day dear Julie.

Hi Julie--
Sometimes rainy days can be so blissful! Your flower pictures are incredible- we love bleeding hearts and have several kinds in our gardens.

Enjoy your rainy Sunday- make it "all about you!"

Thanks so much for your visit- love hearing from you!

I love that book, The Enchanted April. And that's how I feel, too, when I see all the new blooms, especially the early ones that look so fragile.

It's raining here, too, but I don't mind. The grass is a vivid green and starting to look like a meadow {time to cut it!} My daylilies are starting to grow fast...everything is!

I started the book you sent and I am loving every bit of it! Thanks again! :)

XO,
Jane

Happy April 1st Julie Marie~
i love Spring too and always want to plant flowers everywhere BUT as soon as June comes everything fries. It's hard to keep my garden looking good when SO much care is needed in the squelching hot summer. It's fun to live vicariously thru you and other women who live in a more decent climate. I guess I could plant cactus....
Enjoy April. Love the photo of the Bleeding Heart flowers. Your garden is lovely.

Hi dear Julie Marie.....I can't wait till you show us your ENTIRE garden in bloom. A friend of mine once told me that the ONLY thing a garden needs "is a good gardner." THAT would be you. (O:(O:

BTW......my springtime wish is now at home....sweet Skyler....come take a peak if you have time.

hugs,

Jo

Hi, Julie Marie,
Yes, April is definitely an enchanted time. My cottage garden was always at its most beautiful on Easter Sunday. I must admit I have missed my garden, but I have my little patio absolutely packed with flower pots!!! Your bleeding hearts are sweet as can be, too. Have a blessed Easter week, my friend~love always, Vicki

Hello! Julie Marie,
What a lovely post.
April is one of the most wonderful months of the year! For me it is very special... my beautiful daughter was born in April.... on Easter weekend. I always say.... she is what the Easter Bunny brought me.
I am an avid gardener and where I live the gardens are just starting to come up. I love to take a walk each morning and see what else has peeked it head. I noticed yesterday that my roses have a great start... of course, no blooms yet.
I LOVE the photo of YOU in your lace hat!!
Will visit again soon!
Happy Easter!
Elizabeth
