Autumn in Centerville...

By now I am sure you all know I LOVE Autumn and Halloween... the other day my neighbor invited me over to see her beautiful Autumn arrangements... she had gathered gorgeous Autumn leaves up the canyon at her cabin and brought them back to place about her home... here is her dining room table centerpiece, isn't it stunning!... the leaves dry but stay in place all Fall and look so pretty...

That really put me in the mood to head to our local fruit and vegetable stand... I have been patiently (ok, impatiently) awaiting my all time FAVORITE apples arrival... Yippee!!! That was the day!!!... So many yummy things to buy, but first I made sure I headed back through the peaches, squash, melons, gourds, and all the other treasures to get my apples...

Ah ha! There they were... right by my other favorites, the pumpkins! These are the absolute yummiest apples in the world! I bought a half bushel to take home, and ate one in the car on the short drive back...

Here are my treasures, they are called Honeycrisp and if you have never tasted one, you are in for a real treat! They are sweet and sooo juicy and BIG... I love big apples! I bought some caramel apple dip to dip some of them in... mmmm....

You can see some of my New Guinea Impatiens are still blooming pretty, but we are in for a drastic change in the weather here over the next few days... today was in the 90's and they are forecasting a high of 50 degrees for Wednesday... I hope it is a brief cold spell... I love Autumn and want it to last well into Indian Summer... in the mean time, I will enjoy my Honeycrisps with some caramel on top... and maybe bake some pumpkin nut bread tomorrow... hope you are enjoying a beautiful Autumn where you are!... Bisous...

She really is "Charming"...

If you have never visited Karyn at French Charming, you simply MUST click here and do so! I am not sure if she is French, but she is most definitely charming... Karyn is the gorgeous blond on the far right in the photo below that I snatched off of her blog (with her permission, of course!)... This is the only photo I have seen of her on her blog... if I looked as stunning as she does, I would plaster my photo all over!!! She is beautiful inside as well... she was one of my very first followers and a big influence on me and my decision to continue blogging...

Today before I headed out for my sister's "ghouls day out" birthday party (which I will post about on Saturday), I stopped at the post office to get my mail... there was a package! Yippee! It was for "Moi" this time, not Jack! I hurried back home and opened it... inside was a beautiful card and heartfelt message from sweet Karyn, sending "love" my way for being a special friend of hers... the cutest little pink French Poodle (ooh la la) notecards! And an exquisite vintage rhinestone brooch!...

It is so gorgeous, I am in love with it! The colors of some of the rhinestones are kind of a plum~pink and sooo pretty!

Sweet Karyn, you are beautiful and sweet and truly "Charming"... Merci mon ami!... Bisous...

I have the nicest "ghoul" friends...

I really do have the nicest "ghoul~friends"... I met my good friend Elaine through my good friend Jeni, her daughter ... Elaine was the winner of the little sparkly birds in my "Just Because" giveaway recently... Elaine lives in a neighboring city just to the south of me, so I took her little birds up to her... she loved them and immediately put them in some of her Autumn decorations...she then took me on a tour of her beautiful home... it belongs in a magazine! Before I left she gave me this pretty porcelain teacup and saucer filled with yummy chocolate kisses and chocolate bars...

Then yesterday, I found a little package on my doorstep from her... inside was a pretty notepad with the Eiffel tower on it, some raspberry buttercream frosting handcream, and some little candies... what a lovely surprise...

I first met Elaine's daughter Jeni through Brenda, who owns Just a Bed of Roses, our favorite antique~boutique shop in Farmington... We all love to shop there...Right now Brenda's shop is full of bewitching Halloween items along with all of the other treasures she sells... on one of my recent visits, after I came home and started unpacking my treasures, Brenda had tucked in this cute little vintage~look Halloween magnet... what a fun surprise!... She sells those in her shop too, not sure if she has any left though, everything sells really fast there!...

Then I needed just a "few" more things from her shop last week, and once again, when I unpacked my finds, sweet Brenda had surprised me with this little jar of "spoon fudge"... this is the "before" picture... it is all gone now! ...

What could be nicer than good friends and fun surprises... Merci sweet "ghoul~friends" Brenda and Elaine!... Bisous...

The Sarong Sisters...

When my sister and I were just little girls, growing up in the little rural town of Bountiful, we were enchanted by two beautiful blond ladies who we would see around town when we went shopping with our mama... the two ladies were sisters... they were both beautiful, blond, wore gorgeous gold jewelry, gold shoes, carried gold purses, and wore what I believe were sarongs... thus, we named them "the Sarong Sisters"... these ladies definitely stood out in the local Safeway grocery store! They were each married and neither one had children... they went everywhere together... when you are six and ten years old as Jill and I were at the time, they seemed like some kind of fairytale princesses... as the years went by, these ladies never seemed to age... Jill and I were all grown up and still in awe each time we saw them about town... they were quite outspoken and always said what was on their mind... like telling Centerville City off when the City tried to close down a little vintage farmer's roadside veggie stand that had been there in the same spot for over 40 years, said he created a parking hazard, yada, yada, yada... you know, government! (they ALL bought their veggies there too!) These ladies got on the news and really gave Centerville @#**! Several years ago, I went to an estates sale ( I am luckily one of a few who are notified ahead of time of an estate sale company's sales that I get to preview before the public)... When I arrived at the sale, I immediately knew who had passed away and my heart melted... the last of the two "Sarong Sisters" had left to join her sister in Heaven and all of their worldly possessions were for sale... I felt some kind of special "bond" with these ladies that I never really knew... but felt like I knew them well... I was fortunate enough to be able to buy my sister Jill and I each some of their beautiful gold jewelry.... a gold rhinestone bracelet for Jill and the two gold ones you see below for myself... Jill loved hers!... I also bought shiny gold purses of theirs for Jill, me, Filly and Liz (my nieces)... and some beautiful etched crystal goblets, wine glasses, candy dishes, much, much more... they had traveled all over the world with their husbands... they loved life...and lived it to the fullest... they were "Bling" when "Bling" wasn't cool... they invented "Bling"...

When I told the fellow running the sale about their history in Bountiful and Centerville, he gave me this picture of the beautiful sister who had just passed on... Her name was Helen, I believe her sister was Adele, and I will try to find the little picture I received of her... he wanted me to have them... only a distant family member remained, and they did not want anything, (but the money! I hate that!)... So, these ladies are part of my "family" of old photos now that live with me... Helen was in her late seventy's when this picture was taken... I found out the two ladies were in the Daughters of the Nile, and both taught belly dancing their entire lives... wow! She looks pretty good to me at that age!... I had planned on doing this post for some time, but decided to post it today, after a comment that Roberta at Tresor Trouve left me on my post about my new shawl...

So to Roberta, this post is for you, and Jill, it is for you and me with happy memories, and for Helen and Adele... I hope you are both belly dancing away in Heaven... you never knew us but were loved... we miss seeing you... Bisous...

P.S. Roberta... if I looked like HER I would do it!!!....P.P.S. I found the little picture of Adele, but I could not seem to drag it down to here, so it is the top photo (newspaper article) and Adele is on the far right in the black off the shoulder gown...sorry about the blurry photo, that is the best I could get it...

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!...

Friday, September 4th the moon was full... I went out on our front porch to watch it rise over our nearby mountains...camera in hand, of course... slowly it started to appear above the crest...

I took the following photos... it looked eerie... it rose slowly, I thought... but the time actually was less than five minutes...

It reminded me of a Halloween moon... even looks like there are bats flying around it!...

I could not take my eyes off of it... how bewitching!...

I loved Halloween as a child, and I have kept that love for my favorite holiday throughout my life...I have already started decorating inside with witches, crows, pumpkins, ghosts, ghouls, all of my favorite spooks!... Maybe I still love it sooo much because of my happy childhood memories... my little sister Jill and I would look forward to Halloween all year long, and our mama always helped us decorate our room as well as our home for it... those memories of many years ago hold such a special place in my heart... I am still a kid I guess... sometimes... but why not?...my nieces Filly and Liz love Halloween as much as Jill and I do!...

I will be posting alot of Halloween things over the next month... Hope you love All Hallows Eve as much as I do!... Bisous...

White Wednesday and My "Just Because" Giveaway Winners...

Last Friday, two of my favorite girls, Filly and Ellie invited me out for coffee and muffins... my other favorite girl, Liz, couldn't make it that day... The coffee and muffins were delish! We all had a nice time talking and laughing...and just enjoying being together... then they surprised me with this beautiful picture of the Eiffel Tower... My niece Filly actually took that photo herself several years ago when she and her sister Liz (my other sweet niece) went to Europe (their graduation from college present from their mom and dad),... (my sister and my brother~in~law)... I was sooo envious!... Can you just imagine standing there, looking at the Eiffel Tower... sigh... Filly found the perfect shabby white frame for it, making it so perfect also for my White Wednesday post... (Black and white photos are her latest passion)...

They also gave me these yummy chocolate and white chocolate covered espresso beans... yum, yum!...Also the pretty little card by my favorite Nature artist Marjolein Bastin with a heartfelt message inside... These girls are just the sweetest ever!...Merci sweet Filly and Ellie... Je t'aime!...

Monday morning I put the little papers with the names and blogs of everyone who entered my little "Just Because" giveaway in my pink Bauer bowl... Jack closed his eyes...(he is soo much fun!), and used his left hand to pick the winners (he is right handed)... stirred up all the little folded papers and drew out Amy of Bunny Rose Cottage as the winner of the little fufu'd up dress form and sparkly tag, and Elaine as the winner of the two sparkly birds...(I believe it is you Elaine, who commented as anonymous, from the message in your comment)... Elaine does not have a blog but MUST start one now as per my rules! Please email me with your mailing addresses... And "Just Because" I really wanted everyone to win, I am going to send everyone who entered my little giveaway a pretty sparkly tag as shown in the top photo... just email me letting me know you would like one and giving me your mailing address... This was sooo much fun!... I will do another one again soon because I love giving presents!... Merci and Bisous!...

My Friday "Just Because" Giveaway...

I have so much fun visiting everyone's blogs and seeing the lovely things they have won in giveaways... so... I decided to have a giveaway myself!... Usually when I find pretty things to give my sister or my nieces or one of my friends, I can never wait until their birthday or special occasion... I get too excited, and give it to them right away... (I also am not good at keeping secrets... I usually give those away too!)... So, I am posting my Friday giveaway today!...Several posts back I showed my little dress form I fufu'd up (is that a word??? Janet, my friend at Shabbyfufu would say it was!) and named "Irma La Douce" ( which means Irma the Sweet in French)... I had soo much fun dressing her up, I decided it would be even more fun to fufu up another one and give it to one of my blogger friends.... All you need to do to enter my little "Just Because" giveaway is leave me a comment on this post... only comments left on THIS POST will be entered in the giveaway... I will have Jack draw the winning name from a basket full of all entries who post a comment...(he will be thrilled I am sure... I am trying to get him more involved with my blog... I tried to convince him White Wednesday was sort of a holiday and he should really buy me a gift, something white...he didn't fall for that, darn!...)...these little dress forms stand about 18 inches tall and are beautiful sitting on a dresser...the winner will receive this "Mademoiselle ? ( you can name her)..." all dressed up, in satin ribbons and lace with vintage rhinestone jewels and a black feather boa... for the ballet, perhaps??? Also, the pretty glittery French inspired tag... you may leave comments up until midnight Pacific time Sunday, September 6th and I will post the winner on my next White Wednesday post on September 9th... And "Just Because" I have had so many emails inquiring about my pretty sparkly white birds in my last post, I am also giving away two beautiful Autumn colored sparkly birds... so....please tell me in your comment (you only need to comment once to enter)... what your favorite thing in Nature is... I will have Jack draw the second winner after the first one is drawn... You do not need to have a blog to enter... but... if you win, you must PROMISE to start one! It is just too much fun... Good luck... Bisous!...
For those of you who have asked what MY favorite thing in Nature is... since I love all aspects of Nature, I would say my favorite thing is how very close to God it makes me feel... Bisous and good luck again!...

White Wednesday... Vintage Bottles...

I love to collect old bottles, the shabbier the better... here are a few of mine adorned with pretty white embellishments...

I love how they all look together sitting on my dresser...

This is a little one with white satin ribbons and a pretty vintage rhinestone piece attached...

This is one from my purple pressed glass collection that holds vintage white silk roses...

I love this shabby old bottle full of vintage white mother of pearl buttons and vintage thread spools and an old broken white pearl earring on the front... I found the old "Sherry" tag from a liquor bottle at the local thrift shop...

These are more of my favorites, one filled with shabby vintage pearls...

These are so pretty with white lace and pearls and pretty little vintage look labels... I ordered these from my sweet friend Jenni at JenniB Originals... Jenni was originally from here in Utah and I went all through school with her cute dad Ted (sigh...)...Jenni was on Martha Stewart and SHE taught MARTHA how to make her famous Jenni B Originals faux cupcakes! If you click on the link to Jenni's site you can watch a video clip of her doing so! Also, if you click here you can read my older post about the day I met Jenni B... P.S. Tuesday I ran into Jenni while I was out shopping, she is here is Utah for several months visiting... so nice to see you again Jenni!...

Here is a closeup of each of them, they are so pretty...the first one has a label that reads "Cakes Fillings"...

The smaller of the two bottles has a label that reads "Sirop D'Vanier De Paris"...

Another favorite, this pretty one has a shabby looking label with a cute bird nest and says "Bonjour"... I love the vintage silver spoon that hangs from the white satin ribbons...

I really do love them all, but I would have to say my VERY favorite is the old "Ocean Relics" bottle I purchased from sweet Alice at Painted White... I adore the sun washed white sand dollar on the front with the vintage rhinestone embellishment, but my very favorite part is the vintage white paper label on the side of the bottle with my birth month and year...

Happy White Wednesday... be sure to visit Kathleen at Faded Charm for a list of more lovely White Wednesday posts ... Bisous!... P.P.S. I am going to be having a "Giveaway", just because! Check my post Friday for all the details...
